As we rush into another new year, here at diggers @ the entrance, 2017 is looking to be a significant year as your Board & Management continue to prepare for the future and the demands preparing for that future brings?

Currently we are implementing our one page plan, which will see us thru to early 2018. And it contains a new and very exciting development which will be fully revealed hopefully towards the end of 2017, this project if successfully completed, will be the biggest project yet in digger’s long and proud history.

Members are advised that long term ex-chairman Peter O’Grady, has chosen to leave the Board after almost 15 years of service to pursue other interests, and I thank him very much for the effort and work load during that time, and wish him well for the future.

A new Board member will join us  Brian Tighue has been selected by your BOD to fill the void as per our constitution , Brian has had much experience in club-land previously, and we very much look forward to what Brian brings to the table, and I am sure the winners out of Brian’s expertise will be you, our digger’s family members as our Board & Management & staff continue to work hard on future proofing your club.

Much continues to happen at diggers, our recently implemented Chocolate Bar is offering all types of chocolate delegacies not available anywhere on the coast. Make sure you spoil yourself when next visiting your club, you won’t be disappointed!

Kaitlyn our events coordinator is waiting to take all the stress out of any occasion you may wish to host during the 2017 year, so get in early as its getting difficult to secure preferred dates during the next 12 months, due to the popularity of our 3 eating outlets, Feast Buffet, Bites Dining and the everyday favourite, Coffee Plus, and the exquisite Pavilion function centre.

Our new Club Grants year now begins and 2017 will see Diggers surpass the $275,000.00 in sponsorship and donations to local community organisations handed out in 2016 and continues to highlight why diggers was built by the community for the community.

2016-17 is proving to be a very busy year for diggers @ the entrance, and our great IBIS Styles hotel is having record occupancy in year 3 and this is continuing to surge, it is interesting to note we have now exceeded 5,000 overseas visitors, mainly from China in 2016, and projected growth for 2017 in the overseas markets again highlight what a wonderful asset to the community the hotel has been.

“diggers” is considered a central figure within The Entrance area and its contribution to the social and economic infrastructure is substantial.  It is easy to forget the contribution that “diggers” makes to the community and the responsibility it has to its stakeholders – this responsibility is taken very seriously by the board and management alike and as a result we have tried to build a business that services and represents the needs of our whole community.

Anyway back to the grind for me, much work lies ahead , diggers is now a large business which requires a great team to continue to move forward  you should be satisfied that here at your club that team is in place , and will continue ensure your club exceeds industry benchmarks.

That’s it from me for the moment, don’t forget to renew and I will catch you all soon at the best club in the state.

Cheers Steve
